Is it possible to copy keyframes and place them behind the existing keyframes in the timeline?

Indeed it is! In the old AE days before expressions, this was how people did looping motion.
  • Select the keyframes you want to copy. You can lasso them. Then hit Cmd/Ctl-c to copy.
  • Move the timeline cursor (CTI) to the point in time where you want the first copied keyframe to go, and hit Cmd/Ctl-v to paste
.
Repeat as necessary and you're done!

Dave gave you a good answer. But note that you can search After Effects Help for the basic information that you've been asking about.
