Change renderer to Quadro 4000
by Peter Magnusson on Jun 21, 2011 at 8:44:32 am
I have to graphic cards on my MacPro: a Quadro 4000 (slot 1) and a GeForce 8800 GT (slot 2). I have my monitor connected to the GeForce card. When I use After Effects, all the rendering is done by the GeForce card, not the Quadro. I would like AE to take advantage of my Quadro 4000 of course, but how do I change the open GL renderer to this? There´s no option in the settings.
What would be the best setting for my machine? I have 10 GB RAM on a Quadro-Core 2,8 Ghz.

Open GL acceleration is okay for previewing, but not for rendering. AE does NOT utilize Open GL very well at all. For rendering purposes almost everyone -- Adobe employees included -- disable Open GL for rendering in AE.
It sounds more like you want to use one of these cards for a display to a TV monitor. I suppose you could use either one.
The Quadro might be the grreatest thing since sliced bread for Premiere, but it has virtually no impact on AE. That's just how it works.
