Is there a way to control a line by having one end stationary and the other tracking an object?

Just picked up AE CS5 and am learning lots.

thank you!

You can do this using the Beam Effect, but it take a little additional work:
  • Motion track your object.
  • Create a Null Object.
  • Apply the motion track to the null object.
  • Apply the Beam Effect to the layer on which you want the line to appear.
  • Set the beam's beginning point to the fixed position
  • Turn on expressions for the beam's ending point.
  • Use the pick whip to link to the nullobject's position.

Adjust beam color and thickness to taste.
