High contrast lighting effect.

I am trying to find a way to create the effect that someone is sitting underneath a very bright light. Where the "top half" of their features are washed out with the bright light and all you see is the white shining off them, and the bottoms of their features are pretty dark.

Anyone ever created this effect that can share some ideas or tips?

At the minimum I need this effect for a still shot, but would like the opportunity to apply it to a short clip.

Here's a great way to save yourself endless hours of frustration and pain trying to replicate shadows and animating them to simulate the way they would fall on your subject:

Shoot it the way you want it to look.

Ask yourself what's worse: spending a few hours tweaking the lighting and getting the look you want, or spending a week or two faking it, and probably not getting it to look right?
