Very stupid simple question:

How can I fill a mask shape with a solid colour?

[Sascha Engel] "Very stupid simple question: How can I fill a mask shape with a solid colour?"

Very confused question: Are you talking about applying a mask to a solid, or creating a Shape Layer?

In either case, they already come in a color. In the case of a shape layer, they can come with a stroke if you select it. You can modify the color of either with the Fill effect.

And here's more on shape layers:

Very Confused Q indeed - too long rehearsal, followed by far too long time beyond the screen mixed up Mask and Shpae Layer in my Head. And I wanted to give a Mask layer a Colour Fill, instead of creating a Shape Layer.
Sorry, for the bothering - a black coffee brought me back on track.

Thanx, Dave!

Hi Dave,

another one - I really forgot.
I have a little car moving on a Map. Leaving a trace of the way it did:

1.) How do I activate auto orientate?

2.) Easiest way to leave the trace?

Thanx.

[Sascha Engel] "1.) How do I activate auto orientate?"

Layer>Keyframe assistant

[Sascha Engel] "2.) Easiest way to leave the trace?"

Write-on effect. Make a mask path on a solid. Apply the effect. Paste the mask shape data into the brush position. You can use an expression to link another layer to the brush position.

Where do I find the Write On effect?
Use an expression to link them? You mean the pick-Whip?

[Sascha Engel] "Where do I find the Write On effect?"

Use the search function at the top of the panel that lists all the effects. Type "write on".

[Sascha Engel] "You mean the pick-Whip?"

Yup. Search AE's online help and use the term "expression" for details.

... And a really big one: The auto-orient I seemd to made work, but the brush tool, with which I want to create the line behind the car gives me headache: I can just use it in the Layer Window of the Street Map itsself, but to see the locations, which I wrote on -> seperate layers, I need to see the full composition window, but then I cannot use the brush. What to do?

Thanx in advance, Dave.

Greetz,

Sascha

Do like I said before: use Write On! Forget the stinkin' brush. Here's how to use it:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/aftereffects/cs/using/WS3878526689cb91655866c11...

Read carefully. Look at the comments. And know that it took about 30 seconds to do a search using the term Write On. AE's online help is very searchable.

Thanx Dave, I got it. Looking very decent now. I will dig into AE Help next time.
But if I do not find it - I will come back to you and the wisdom of the LaRonde ;-)

Have a Great Day!
