Hi Creative Cow users.
I would like some help to fix this issue because it really annoys me when i have to wait
everytime i preview something in the timeline.
I have also experienced a flickering dialog box when previewing.

I followed the instructions on adobe:

But nothing seemed to work.
I have a good computer with 6 cores and 8 GB of RAM.
And i am running Windows 7 64-bit.

I am working with large file sizes up to 15 GB uncompressed AVI.
The hole project is about a total of 50 GB.

Example of the issue:
Let me give you an example of when the problem appears.

For example i have a comp size on 400 frames that i want to preview.
When i hit the shortcut '0' on my Keypad it starts rendering fast and there is no problems at all.
But when i almost reach these 400 frames After Effects CS5 starts to freeze and sometimes it
also do a flickering dance.

Would be nice is someone knew how to fix this Because right now i can't really use After Effects CS5.

* If you also know how to get the full exploitation of the 8 GB RAM and 6 cores let me know.

Thank you

If you don't have the free update to AE 10.0.1 or later, you should get it right away. Go Help>Update.

You may not believe this, but 8 GB isn't much at all for AE 10. I have a dual quad-core Mac Pro at work with 8 GB, and I wouldn't DREAM of using multiprocessing, because I don't have enough RAM to make it work efficiently. If you're using multiprocessing, you should turn it off, too.

Likewise, turn of Open GL if you're using it to accelerate rendering. It's okay for previewing, but not for rendering.

The bottom line: you need more RAM. If you can't put more RAM in your machine, don't use multiprocessing. I happen to have a dual quad-core machine at home, but I have 24GB RAM at home. Multiprocessing is fine on it.

If you do get more RAM, you should check this out:

Don't forget to click on the links -- very important.
