Hey there, I've been rotoscoping w/paint and I'm aware you cannot flatten layers like you could a vector in illustrator but I have about a zillion brush strokes and i'm only a few seconds in... after effects is going to crash on me, I know it. okay so maybe not a zillion, but really it is more like ~3000 brush strokes per second of footage, and I have over 20 seconds of footage. so uh, help? is there anyway I can do this or some other way of "flattening" without crashing?

Sorry, I'm of no help to you at all. I've only played with paint controls once, in AE 6.

And I have never, EVER, used paint to do roto work. Before you began this epic, did you look at the following?

Regarding your question of "flattening": You could pre-render the part that you're done with.
