Referring to the below image, I would like the object on the motion path (it's an arrow) to disappear under the orange thing. I thought I could draw an inverted mask on the object's layer, but this doesn't work because the layer is animated (not to mention auto-oriented). How would I go about achieving the desired effect?

Duplicate the layer with the orange thing, mask around the orange thing on the duplicated layer, and move it above the arrowhead layer.
