Hi there,

Please help me!

I have some old footage from the 60's (B+W) of a man walking from left of frame to right. I want to cut him out (frame by frame) if need be and replace the background.

I have never used After Effects before and just cannot find a way of doing it. I don't know how to draw the matt let alone track the movement... please help me!

Using After Effects CS4.

[Richard Tipple] "I have never used After Effects before and just cannot find a way of doing it. "

You've never used AE before, and you want to tackle ROTOSCOPING? Yipes!
That's like saying, "I just got my learner's permit. When can I start competing in NASCAR?"

I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but you have so MUCH to learn about the basics of AE that it really isn't going to help if we delve into the details of roto work.

If your funds are limited, I strongly recommend that you get the basic knowledge you so desparately need here:

If you can afford the cost of a video game, you'll get a far more effective, all-in-one-place intro to AE basics and more advanced stuff here:

To fast track learning roto, watch Mathias Mohl's videos on his scripts "Tracker2Mask" and "Keytweak"

Catch them here:

Roto can be time consuming but with patience it'll be great!

And here are a bunch of useful rotoscoping tutorials and tips: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/aftereffects/cs/using/WS39e706a46ad531be1172e08...

But I second Dave's post. Learn the basics of AE first before you try to work in it. Otherwise it will end in tears.
