Choosing X and Y path points separately

For my comp, I've set up a huge map, and I use a camera to zoom around the map at a perpendicular angle. I've turned off "auto-orient".
Sometimes I want a linear point, and sometimes a bezier. Once I've animated the camera, I go in the viewfinder so that I can see the points on the line. Problem is that I can only select the point for the X coordinate, and not the Y because they are right on top of each other.

Unless there are other things in this comp that you haven't disclosed, I don't see the need to even use 3D or cameras. You can simply animate the map layer's position property. If you want to zoom in and out, you can animate the layer's scale.
Things instantly get easier that way.
