Sorry if this is in the wrong section of the forum but I believe AE is the best way of doing this - maybe via Flash.

I'm working on a road film, crossing Siberia, and I want to have a tripometer in the corner of the screen showing how many kilometers covered. And a clock in another corner showing how much time has past... where do I start?

the numbers effect would be a good place to start. you can select a format (number, time, date, etc.) and keyframe the value changes.

you would need 2 effects, one for time and the other for distance. you can put those on the same layer/solid, but the second one would need the option of 'composite on original' set. if you wanted to add 'km' to the end of the distance, you would need to do that with a text layer, or maybe the text effect (in the 'obsolete' effects).
