I use Motion so I am a bit of a newbie to After Effects...

I want to reuse a complex scene with camera movement, lights, keyframes, etc. from a template. Then I want to change the image in that scene.

Do I make a new layer, copy and paste the old layer, then replace the footage using ALT+drag?

Thanks much

if you in "project" rightclick on the footage you want to change you can choose "replace" and select the file you want

Since you're new, duplicate the layer you want to replace. Then you can highlight the original layer, and use Alt-Drag. Works great.

If it's right, you can delete the duplicated layer. If you messed up, you still have the duplicated layer to try again.
