Re-Rending QT Movie files

So I just have a question about video quality when re-rendering a QT file. If someone gives me a .mov file and I import it in to AE and then render out a new movie does the video lose quality? When doing this is it best to have the original QT movie render with the Animation codec, I read that's it's the best quality codec?

In quicktime movie-land, either the animation or PNG codecs are lossless. The PNG codec has a slight advantage of making smaller file sizes under most circumstances. But for alpha-channeled lower-third animations to use in anNLE, you can't beat Animation.
Both codecs are 8-bit codecs, which should be fine for your use... unless you're shooting on a RED camera or something exotic like that.
