I have a doubt and would really appreciate if you guys can help me out:

i have shot a small clip where i have a guy crashing into the screen

i want to give the effect that when he crashes into the screen -- the screen cracks -- glass cracking

so how would I do that in After Effects i have after effects cs 2

Please help

No such thing as AE CS2.
Try the Shatter effect.

To add to Michael's response, here's a question: how realistic does this thing have to look?

If you shot the video, taking it as an article of faith that you could pull off a trick in AE ("Hey, you can do anything in After Effects... why should I worry?"), you might be disappointed.
