should you make multiple comps and transition between them or is it just as easy to continue working in the 3-D space outside of the comp viewer window, if you are trying to make a project appear to move linearly from one point to the next, using moving animated lines? here is an example of what i mean if my question is too confusing..(as i think it might be) i'd apreciate any help on this. thanks.

Well, you can have several different views set up and switch between them. Also, you can set up as many camera layers as you want and whichever one is the top-most layer with the eyeball turned on is the one you'll be looking through. So you can have, literally, thousands of views set up, if you wanted them.

And/or, you could set it up in different comps and apply the "collapse transformations" switch on those precomps to put them in the 3d space of your main comp.
