Light Sweep CC on shape layer

Hello CC,

Is it possible to be able to place a light sweep on a rectangle without it starting to show along the sides of the shape layer.

Example:

I want the edge intensity to only be visible from the top and not the sides.

Thanks!

One method would be to make a duplicate of you layer with the light sweep and mask to the areas that you want to be effected by the light. Like this: 7866_lightsweep.aep.zip

That method seems to work well. The only issue is, it gives of a sharp edge from below when adding the mask. I want the edge thickness to exceed about 12-13.

Example:

I'm hoping for my light sweep to look similar to this image below

Thank you John.

Do you mean the light sweep, get's a sharp edge? If that's the case, just make your masking layer bigger.

If I mask the duplicated layer with the light sweep, the mask then creates a "sharp line" between the light sweep and second shape layer. If I make my masking bigger it then starts to show the light sweep showing on the edge of the shape layer.

I have uploaded my AE. I may be doing it wrong!

Thank you once again John.

try this:

add the circle effect, position the 'center' in the upper-right corner area and set feather, radius, opacity and color as needed.

add linear wipe, angle = 0 and set completion and feather as needed to give the thickness as needed.

add cc composite, setting composite to behind and uncheck the rgb only option.

if you fiddle with the circle and linear wipe settings, i think you'll get really close to the edge effect that you are looking for.

Sorry Kevin, I'm not sure I follow through with your steps. What do you mean by "circle effect"?

Sorry, I'm still an amateur at this.
