best export settings for web (youtube, etc.)

Well, I am an idiot. I knew I was making this project for the web upfront, but forgot to change my comp settings to square pixels, so instead it's at NTSC widescreen (1.21), at 720x480 px, what do my export settings need to be to keep the aspect ratio the same and so it doesn't get squeezed? I have way too much put into this comp to change the comp settings and adjust all my frames (unless there's an easy way to do it with a plugin or script?)

Thanks all,

Aza

[Aza Allen] "....unless there's an easy way to do it with a plugin or script?"

Why does everybody think plugins and scripts are somehow magic?

You can just nest your current comp in a 16x9 square-pixel comp, based either on either your existing horizontal or vertical resolution. Let's do some simple arithmetic, shall we?

720/16 = 45. 45x9=405. You could make a 720x405 comp.

480/9 = 53.33333333333. Ugh: a repeating decimal. Well, let's continue anyway.
53.33333333333 x 16 = 853.33333333328. Rounding off the decimal, you could make an 853x480 comp, too.

Take your pick. Just scale the layer to fit the comp... whichever one you choose. AE does a MUCH better job of this stuff in a new square-pixel comp than it does squeezing a comp in the Render Queue.

I had no idea it would be that simple...

Thank you very much! For some reason I thought going from a 1.21 px aspect ratio to a sq px comp was going to involve a more complex solution.

So, then, just to pick your brain, what if I wanted to do the reverse? Go from a square pixel comp to a 1.21, or even .91?

[Aza Allen] "...what if I wanted to do the reverse?"

That's one reason why AE has comp presets. They're already in the proper pixel aspect ratio.
