Blending Text Layer + PSD layer
on Mar 8, 2010 at 10:26:46 am

Hello people of Creative Cows,

I have the following problem: I have two layers:
1) the bottom layer which fills my screen completely with text (it is an animation that gradually fills the screen with text from top left to bottom right)
2) top layer which is a photoshop file (.psd) (a layer)
my aim is to blend the photoshop cut-out in the text, hence that part of the text (the text right under the image) is darker then the text not under the image. however, it doesn't seem to work. I suspect it might have something to do that the text is vector and the image is raster. I've trying many things, and the last resort is to animate the screen-filing text, export it, and import it again as a video file (then it does work, bit it is almost impossible to time)

any ideas on how I have to this?

example:

text text text text text text text text
text text text [black] text text text
text text [black] [black] text text
text [black] [black] [black] text text
text text [black] [black] text text
text text text text text text text text

As far as After Effects is concerned, all the items are raster graphics. It interprets vector graphics into raster for placement in the comp windows, so don't worry about that.

I think you might want to look at Track Mattes and see if that's what you're trying to do.
