HI I am doing some experimenting with animated text in AE 6.5...being somewhat new to AE I have watched many tutorials on animating text...the problem I am having is that when I create a new text layer and type some text....the text comes out very bold and the letters look so fat you can hardly tell what letter it seems to do this no matter what font I I not doing something correctly?...I have tried to resize the text and that does not help...I am assuming that what ever font I choose it should look like as it would in any other program that uses text...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps the stroke width is set to a high value. Try decreasing it.

What filter, surface or other effects do you have applied to the text?

Like Todd says, check those Character settings closely. There could be any number of things that could be out of whack, and character stroke easily could be one of them.
