Perspective: object traveling past camera from far to near

I have a problem where a planet in the distance gets closer to the camera and flys by on either the left side of the screen or the right. My problem is the object gets big fast then slows down and takes a long time to fly off the screen. How can I make it appear that the Space ship has just flown by a planet without making it look like the ship slowed down? Thanks

Instead of using 2 keyframes for the zoom passing the planet shot, try adding another right where it starts to slow down, then adjust the last key frame by bringing it closer to the 2nd key frame. This should do the trick, also using easy in, out and ease to smooth the transition of speed.

How are you achieving the motion of the planet? The perspective correct way to do this would be to use a camera and 3D layer in after effects. Make sure you don't scale the layer. Instead keyframe the position of the camera or the position of the layer.
