I am doing some billboards with a lot of text into and I have about 42 layers with all me elements in my timeline window. Besides shy, is there a way to group "common" text or graphic elements together so I am not so confused and have so much clutter?

I may not be thinkin' to well today, but the only thing that comes to mind is a precomp. Depending on how you're layering things, you made need more than one.

You can use color labels to help with this. See "Color labels for layers and footage items".

Careful naming of layers combined with the ability to filter in the Timeline panel can really help, too.

Even more snazzy is Zorro, a script that allows you to tag layers and then filter by the tags (and much more):
