Hello guys!
Someone could help me make a decision?

I'm buying a mac pro and I am undecided whether to take a processor Two 2.66GHz Quad-Core or a Two 2.93GHz Quad-Core.
Since there is a significant difference of price I would like to know if there is also a big difference in perform.

I need it to work with Red footage and to do compositing in After Effects.

Thanks!

Ga

you are talking about the 8-core (two quad-core cpus) right? you'll definately want to get an 8-core mac. the 2009 4-core macs are handicapped by 4 ram slots and a max 8gb of ram, the 8-core macs have 8 slots and can hold 32gb.

i don't know of any diference architecture-wise between the two. they hold the same amount of ram. the ram bus has the same speed, as does the L3 cache. so the difference in speed should only be about 10% -- the difference in core clock speed.

unless money was not a factor, i would go with the 2x2.66ghz mac and spend the extra money on more ram.
