Creating Overexposed Light? [Film Effect]

I want to create a car scene with the sun overexposed and shining through the windshield. I need this film effect for a music video. Is it possible to record the scene with the sun shinning through and create overexposure in after effects? I have tried curves and I can't seem to get it, and I have watched countless tutorials. I shoot with a Canon T2i DSLR if that helps any.

Use a Lens Flare effect. There are numerous good third-party options like Video Copilot Optical Flares, Red Giant Software Knoll Light Factory, and GenArts Sapphire S_LensFlare.
