I set up a color expression layer, and input an RGB value. All fine.

When I went to put in a new RGB value, I found that on its own, the RGB had changed from the 0-255 range to ranges in the thousands.

What's going on here? I've tried rebooting, etc.

I'm using AE CS5.5, trying to wean myself off the subscription.

i find that working in projecting work space 16 bit gives 0-16,235 and 8 bit 0-255 and 32 0-1
you can use linear() expression if you want.

Brilliant! Thanks so much! That is exactly what happened, as I had to switch from 8-bit to 16-bit output.

How do you deal with the translation, when you are given 0-255 values for RGB and you have to work in 16-bit space?

Thanks again.
