I created a file that is 5inx5in in illustrator, but when I import the file into after effects, the comp size is 360x360. No matter how big I make the illustrator file, the import comp size is always 360x360. Is there a way to fix this?

The animation I want to make is symmetrical on either side. When I scale it up in AE, everything scales from the center and I have to reposition everything again. I want to avoid this since I worked so hard to get everything in the right position in the illustrator file.

Any tips?

Make it the proper size in Illustrator? Use pixels and not inches.

I'm sorry I should have been more clear. No matter how large I make the file in illustrator, it always imports as 360x360 in after effects. Even when I change the size of the artboard in Illustrator.

I bet you imported it as a comp. No problem. Open that comp. Turn on the Continuously Rasterize switch for each layer. Now nest that comp in another comp, turn on Continuousl Rasterzation for that comp, and scale it up. Everything will maintain its relative position AND stay nice and sharp.
