Long time AE user but brand new to Element 3D so sorry for the n00b question.

I'm trying to map a layer (in this case, a video) to a particular side of a geometric object (in this case, a cube). I'd like it to be mapped to a specific side of the cube. I'm assuming this can be done but I'm struggling with how.

Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

This will help you out, but I believe that in order to map one particular side of a polygon, you need to have set your texture mapping in a 3D package, and then exported it as a .obj file:
http://www.videocopilot.net/docs/element/texturing_and_materials/surface_uv...

In order to map a video to your object in Element 3D, you need to have it in your comp as a layer, then assign that layer as a custom texture map.

You really should go over all of the tutorials and help files on the VideoCopilot website to get up to speed on Element 3D - there's a lot to learn...

You could also line up the video on one side of the cube in 3d space then create a null object for the group in Element 3D and link the video to the null. Then use the null to move the cube and the video together. It might be easier than creating a texture.

I made a super-simple 6-sided cube in C4D with separated faces for Element and posted it here some time ago:
