Candle Fire - Motion Tracker problem
on Dec 29, 2015 at 10:48:07 am

Hello guys I need your help with one specific shot in my movie ... In the shot is moving candle that we recorded not lit up so we can add fire, smoke and wick of a candle in postproduction. But I came to a problem in After Effects, the motion tracker doesnt track the movement of a candle correctly and the mask (fire, smoke and wick of a candle) that I parented to the null object later on wiggles around pretty visibly. Is there any way that I can track the movement better? I tried many methods but they didnt worked ...

Your link doesn't work.

What methods have you tried already?

• You might need to use several tracking points in series to get through the clip.
• If individual points don't work, try tracking the entire candle.
• If the image is low contrast, make another composition with the clip and blow out the levels to create high contrast between the candle and the surrounding area. Insert the comp with the modified levels into the main comp, track the high contrast candle, apply the motion data to the original clip, and hide the high contrast comp.

What part of the clip do you find to be problematic? The tracking looks OK. The flame is a little stiff near the end, but I'm not sure a casual observer would notice.

I agree. I didn't notice any tracking problems. The air would have to be extremely still for the flame to be that undisturbed, but even that fits the mood of the shot fine in my opinion.

I think when you watch the shoot fullscreen you can spot some shaking of the flame and wick at least its pretty visible for me ...
