Hi Everybody,

If anybody can help, I Greatly appreciate it.

We are trying to set up a render farm for AE 2015. But here is no Watch Folder in 2015.

We tried installing AE 2014, but the only way to render out your AE project is a sequence rather than Quicktime. If the settings are set to quicktime, watch folder just loads and goes back to the original screen.

Is there a substitute watch folder in AE 2015?

Anybody have experience with setting up AE 2015 render Engine?

Please let me know.

Many Thanks!

[John Miyoshi] "We tried installing AE 2014, but the only way to render out your AE project is a sequence rather than Quicktime"

That's how it works. Multiple machines can write their own parts of the sequence, but multiple machines can't write into a single file.

[John Miyoshi] "Is there a substitute watch folder in AE 2015? "

No, Ae CC 2015 does not have watch folder rendering. However, since Ae CC 2015 files are perfectly compatible with Ae CC 2014, you can use CC 2014's watch folder for network rendering.

You could presumably use a third-party render manager with Ae CC 2015.

That doesn't sound right. Although the only way to get multiple machines contributing to a render is through image sequences as Tero notes, one machine watching a folder should be able to pick up and render a movie file. Are you sure everything (QuickTime, codecs, effects, etc.) necessary to render the job is loaded on the render node?

Hi Walter,

Thanks for the advice! We tried rendering into a quicktime but was not successful.

What third party plug-in would you recommend?

Thanks again,
John

[John Miyoshi] "Thanks for the advice! We tried rendering into a quicktime but was not successful."

I just tried it -- it works fine here.

Are you doing it the right way? You have to use File > Dependencies > Collect Files, enable Watch folder there with the checkbox, and collect the project into the watch folder.

You cannot just save the file there and expect the render engine to pick up the job, unless you also (manually) write a render control file.

hmm interesting. Are you able to render into quicktime too?

This is correct.
File > Dependencies > Collect Files.

It says - render control file not valid for "project.aep" - (Image Below)

Really appreciate the help!
John

This is what we get.

Can you post the render control file and a screenshot of the contents of the watch folder?

I did, thanks, John. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving, too.

I'm sorry I was unclear; I'd like to see a screenshot from Finder of your watch folder, and I'd like to see the contents of the main_RCF.txt file so I can try to figure out why the render engine says it's invalid.

Hi Walter,

Apologizes with the late response. I usually get a email when I get a response but I did not seem to get one.

But here are the requested screenshots.

Again, thank you very very much for your help on this.

-John
