Hi there,

what is the best way to mask an object which is moving and bending. (for example the spoon in the spoon-scene of matrix 1)

In the mask i want to blend in another footage/video

If you know any tutorials which i can follow i would be thankful.

i found this tutorial is this the right for me?:

Are you talking about isolating a moving object and eliminating its background? If so, try Rotobrush. You'll need to look up training materials for it -- Rotobrush isn't intuitive.

Hey Dave,

i am not sure if i explained my self right. If not i am sorry.

Staying with the example of the spoon. I just want to have an Mask over it while it is moving, bending and getting even a bit blurry when the camera focus leaves it. (can i make my mask blurry then too with feathering?)

here is the scene:

and here i tried with a picture done in Photoshop, to show what i mean:

In the mask which has the form of the Spoon, i want to blend in another footage. Can i make this footage a bit domed and arched like the spoon ?

I am willing to learn whatever it takes but i just want to get it right from the start.. starting with the right tutorials.

thanks!

How much experience do you have with AE? If it's not much, you should start here: http://adobe.ly/AE_basics

That being said, what you're asking about involves three different (big) things.
1. Rotoscoping
2. Motion Tracking
3. Distortion

And that's ignoring all the other things such as how to set keyframes, creating a composition, etc.

Thank you very much. I will go through it step by step. Would you recommend the Mocha Plugin for this purpose?

Mocha can be a very useful tool. I believe the motion tracking link in my last post contains links to some useful information about the version of Mocha that comes with After Effects.
