Adobe After Effects CC 2015 Ram Preview Lag

I used to edit Call of Duty sniping videos and I'd also try making small 2D intros inside of AE. I could run it fine on CS6 and early version of CC.
I recently wiped out my PC and stopped using After Effects and now I'm trying to get it again and I can't ram preview without audio lag/cutting out and lots of frames dropping.
Version: 13.5.1(Pretty sure that's the latest?)
Processor: AMD FX-4100 quad-Core Processor 4.00 GHz
RAM: 16.0 GB
System Type: 64-bit
That's all I know about my PC while being lazy.
So what happens is I'm used to pressing '0' on the numpad to start ram preview and also to end it. It seems to lock keyframes if I press it again? I don't know what that does and I used to be able to click to cancel ram preview which I can't do and that sucks. But I just get massive FPS drops and it's not real time(says in the little render tab or whatever at the top right) The audio is messed up aswell etc...
