Working on a graphic packaging for a show.
The elements are vector graphics and some QT renders from Cinema4d.

I'm asked to deliver 1920X1080 QT files at 29.97i.

What's the best MO?
1) Work in 29.97 comps in AE, render out Upper Field First

2) Work in 59.94 comps in AE, render out 29.97 - Upper Field First
[according to this relic from 2004: http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/317681.html ,
in the last paragraph]

3) Work in 29.97, render Progressive, interlace when importing to Avid.

Also, do I need to render out my 3D comps interlaced?

thanks!

I would say your option #1, unless you have fast action and then option #2 might make more sense. Do all your compositing work in progressive and then export interlaced.

I agree that Option 1 is best. I'm curious about the frame rate of the C4D footage and if it's progressive/interlaced.

Yep, Dave, you're right.
Rendered some animation in both 29.97 and 59.94.
The latter looks more "video".

Both clips were rendered Upper First and when checked on a TV played OK -
no combing artifacts.

C4D was rendered @ 29.97 progressive, and looked fine in the AE comp.
Since the 3D stuff is pretty short I'm rendering QT - will an image sequence make any difference?

Here are some broadcaster specs, to confuse me more:

I. HIGH DEFINITION VIDEO (1080i/59.94)
(1) The video information must be recorded on 1125 total lines, 59.94 fields or 29.97 frames per second. Active video must occupy 1920 samples horizontally and 1080 lines vertically with a 1.78 (16:9) aspect ratio.

I'd imagine there are more to those delivery specs besides what you posted. Media container, codec and bit rate come to mind right away.

Well, all my stuff goes into Avid, and the editors are dealing with final delivery.
I'll deliver DNxHD or Animation.

The show is shot / cut at 59.94 1080i, so my comps will comply.

Great, you're set. It was that "1125 lines" requirement that threw me. Those 45 extra lines are for broadcasters. Since editors get your stuff next, they're irrelevant to you.
