Hi Creative cow,

I've had this problem a while but recently its really grinding my gears!

Basically when I move a mask in after effects, the image I'm masking dramatically reduces in quality. This makes it hard to decide where to release the mask, slowing down the masking process.

Here's a video that I've recorded that explains my problem...

Hopefully you can help me!

That's AE's adaptive resolution. It lets you see SOMETHING, even if it's not great, after you move the timeline cursor. Just give AE a chance to catch up and you'll be good. Since we don't know squat about your computer, OS, AE version or how you have AE set up, we can't comment on why it's taking so long.

You can turn Adaptive Resolution off. Click the lightning bolt icon under the viewer, and choose "Off (Final Resolution)."

You will still have to wait for Ae to render and update the new masked content, as you drag the mouse around, though!
