hi!
i have white text (an indesign file) on a black background solid.

i duplicate the text layer and apply a luma matte on it so a background will be visible in the characters. this is the most top layer.

when applying the luma matte, i get a white border around the text, although they are the exact same size.

so why is that and what can i do to prevent this?
thanks

I wonder if it may have something to do with aliasing? Is the text coming from a graphic image or straight out of After Effects' text tool?

it's an indesign file. so the text is written with the text tool in indesign. i import the indesign file into after effects and hit the sun icon to continuously rasterize.

You don't have to duplicate the text layer. Add the background -- the stuff that fills the letters -- on the bottom layer of the comp. Make sure the text layer is above it on the BACKGROUND layer, using the Trk Matte dropdown, pick Alpha Matte (name of text layer).

You're done.
