Hi,

Thank you for reading...

Does anyone know where I can find a tutorial on how to make an outdoor scene w back wall as sky, floor as grass and the flowers on the grass w the camera moving from foreground to background towards the back wall, thru the flowers.

I have figured out, more or less how to have the flowers there and move thru them w the camera, I just have to add the floor of grass and the back wall. I want the back to stay pretty stationery looking.....as if not really moving.

The flowers need to 'stick' to the floor as the camera moves thru.

Any tips?
Thanks so much,
Warmly,
Hope

What degree of style/realism are you looking for?

A few options jump to mind:
- Generating the grass with a particle system like Trapcode Form
- Deforming a solid into grassy shapes with Mettle Freeform
- Projecting a real grass photo onto a 3D plane with a camera projection technique (like the Buena Depth Cue Camera Mapper [link]

Hi Walter,

Thank you so much for your ideas....very kind of you to write all that out.

At this point it doesnt have to be realistic, was just going to use a photo of grass...HOWEVER....

I do have Form. Not the latest versionl It is version 2 from 2011. apply it to a 2D layer it cautions me.....is there a grass preset? I searched online for one
These are the presets I have: read below image too...

The main point for moi, is how to make the - 2D layers of flowers I have in a comp, in 3D space, - make them stick to a floor - how to add the floor and stick the flowers to them as the camera goes thru the 3D space.

Means: how to add a floor and backwall) which can just be a photo of grass and a photo of sky for now.....I can put in a sky movie later.
Just want the flowers to stick to the floor...dont know how to add a floor. and have a back wall that does not move as the camera comes thru the flowers at it is so far away.

Thanks so much,
Warmly,
Hope

Add a layer, maybe grass photography or even a flat green solid for now, make it 3D, rotate it so it's pointing up instead of straight at the camera, and slide its Y position down.

To have a back wall that doesn't move, you can either put a simple 2D layer on the bottom of your timeline, or you can make it 3D and push it very far back into space and scale it to be very large.

Hi John,

Again, thanks so much....very kind of you!!! I have been working on it.

Is there anyway to get the vertical flowers to 'stick' to the floor (grass) as one moves the camera thru the flowers, kind of following the butterfly?

- Here is a pic of what I want...the butterfly to go thru the flowers w a backwall and a floor of grass.

Ideal scene:

- so far I have this..flowers are 2D layers but w 3d turned on, the background is 2D as you mentioned. the flowers move around on the grass when the camera angle changes...dont want that...lol

- Another orbit of same scene

Also we have this kind of scene that I have constructed w the floor and back wall in 3d. As you see, the floor needs to be adjusted, but the flowers need to 'stick' to the floor as the camera moves around, or even thru it.

Or I suppose i could forget the floor and just do the same w out the floor... something that would like like this, but w the stems going out of the pic:

but would be nice to learn how to do this main idea of having it 3D w camera moving around....could be quite nice. I have a 3D butterfly I made.

Ideal: camera follows the butterfly
2nd best: scene moves around a bit as butterfly flies thru the flowers
3rd best: no floor...only sky I guess, but camera is moving....that is all I seem to be able to do so far.

I have tried a static 3D scene, w just the butterfly moving around...basically it could be 2D...it looks like 2D.....not as interesting as when the camera is moving around:

none of these are really working or looking right.
What do you think, suggest?

Warmly,
Hope

The flowers are 3D layers and they will stick to the grass if the grass is also a 3D layer, rotated as if it were a ground plane or floor like in your other images.

If you want to fly over a photo of grass like that, you'll need to use the camera projection technique I mentioned before. This technique allows you to take a 2D texture and project it onto 3D geometry. Note that your camera movement will be somewhat constrained before the effect falls apart.

Here are some tutorials:

Here's a great plugin that makes camera projection easier:

I had also mentioned creating the ground synthetically with Mettle FreeForm. Here are a few examples of using FreeForm to create terrain:

Dear John,

Very kind of you...I will check all these things out.
Appreciate your input.

btw...if you were doing such a thing, how would u do it?

Warmly,
Hope
