Compositions Running at Different Frame Rates?
on Jun 30, 2015 at 10:02:27 am

I was wondering if it is posable for a pre-comp in a composition to run at 12 or 8 frames a second, where the main composition will be running at 29.7 .

We are working on a project that has a cross of CG and Cell animation and we are trying to reduce the look of smooth CG animation

Or might there be an other way...?

Any help would be great and I hope I made it clear about what I am asking.

Kind Regards

E

Yes. Open the Composition Settings for your 8 fps comp. Click the Advanced tab. Check the box for "Preserve frame rate when nested or in render queue."

Walter's method will work, but your animation won't get any smoother. It will remain 8 fps... more or less. The frames in the 8fps comp will be repeated as necessary in the 29.97 fps comp.

To truly invent new and different frames in the footage, you would need frame rate conversion software like Twixtor.

Okay cool will try out both method and get back to you, i don't currently have Twixtor so might have to look investing in that!

I'll assume you're already doing this, but let's just make sure: I'd match the frame rate of CGI stuff to the frame rate of the cel animation.

It seems like common sense, but it doesn't hurt to make sure.
