What should I improve?
on May 26, 2015 at 1:43:28 am

Hello everyone.
I've been using AE for a while (about 2 years), and as time passes my skills keep growing.
The thing is that I'm making a huge project (a kinetic typography, I love them) and my pc looks like it's going to explode when I try to RAM preview, my entire pc starts to freeze, this gets worst as I keep going with the project.

This is what I have:
Intel(R) Core i7-4770 3.40GHz, 3398 MHz 4 physical and 4 virtual (I think that's huge for me)
Memory 8gb (Maybe that's what I could improve)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 1024 MB (Doesn't support CUDA and it's slow with 3d, tho I'm not using 3d shapes)
HDD 500gb (I know solid-state drives are faster)

My current settings in AE:
CPU and Memory
GPU information
Disk Cache

So, the best thing would be that I need to improve my RAM because it's the cheapest hardware, from 8 to 16gb, I could also buy a solid-state disk, maybe 60gb or 128gb because they are more expensive.
I can't change CPU or GPU, not now at least.
So what do you say? Should I buy more RAM or not? Is there something else I can do?
Thanks.

How many ram slots do you have? Get as much ram as you can afford and your PC can handle. Rendering time will increase. That being said, an SSD is the single best improvement you can make to your pc. You'll notice night and day difference. Save up, buy as much ram as possible and an SSD.

Yes, an SSD would be perfect, I'll get that next. I have 2 slots for RAM, 1 has a 1333 8gb RAM and I'm buying a 1600 8gb RAM for the other one, seems like 1600 RAM is compatible with 1333.
Thanks for the answers, I just wanted to be sure.

Could you do 2 x 16 GB instead, for a total of 32 GB? It will make a big difference.

That would make a HUGE difference but one I can't afford. There are 2 or 3 places where I can get those and they go up to U$S280 because others sell 16gb as 8gb x2.
+8gb is ok for me.
