Hello everyone,

I would like to export a video with very low resolution (128 X 96) in AE. This video has to be projected with a large scale. I don't want to increase the resolution of the video or something, I actually want the pixels to be perceptible. I want know what the best way would be to upscale the video with the best quality possible. I like the contrast high and the edges of the pixels sharp.
Thanks in advance!

Marius

How are you going to play this back? What's the playback & display devices you will use? It makes a difference.

In AE, you usually start with the delivery specifications, than you work backwards to meet them most efficiently.

What Dave said.

If you're delivering to a high-res system, consider using Mosaic to get the sharp pixelated effect you're after.

Thanks for the responds! The resolution of the beamer is SVGA 800 x 600, 480.000 Pixel SXGA 1280 x 1024 compressed. I could maybe get a better one if this would contribute to the result significantly. As for the Mosaic-effect....I don't want it to have a superficial look. It's just, that on the screen of the computer it looks fine but as projection it loses details. Would it help to preserve the details?

Hello Dave,
I have another exhibiton with the same video. This time I will use this beamer: http://www.projectorcentral.com/Sanyo-PLC-XU106.htm
Can you tell me what the best export settings would be for this device?
Thanks in advance!

No, I can't it has, according to the specs, a few different resolutions: 720p, 1080i, 1035i, 575i, 575p, 480p & 480i .

Which do you intend to use?

720p I think. But it depends on which would be best to achieve my goals.

Do you need more information?

Projector resolution is only one of the settings you need to worry about. The playback system itself may have additional requirements (container, codec, bit rate, etc.).

I'd think any of the supported resolutions on that projector would suffice. Just scale your 128x96 video up to a comp of native playback size and leave Draft mode on (both on the layer and in your render settings).

Thanks for the answer!
Why should I leave Draft mode on?

[Marius Packbier] "Why should I leave Draft mode on?"

Sorry I missed this before. Draft mode keeps scaled elements blocky (nearest neighbor scaling) instead of smoothing them (bilinear or bicubic scaling).

That used to be a performance choice; now you're making it as a creative one.
