Hi!

I've been using After Effects CC (2014.2) for a couple of days now. For some reason it doesn't want to render a RAM preview of a transparency animation. It ignores the change in transparency completely. What could cause this issue?

Cheers,

Stef

P.S.- Or is my 2008 Mac Pro getting too old for this sh*t? ;-)

It might have a lot to do with the hardware/OS/AE version combination. AE has been known to perform erratically using the wrong OS.

Please elaborate on OS version and AE version... down to the last decimal point.

I'm currently using AE CC 13.2.0.49 on Mac OSX 10.10.2.

But strangely enough it started working again just now... I restarted the machine and that seems to have solved to problem. Any idea what could have happened? So we can close this topic as being solved for similar questions.

Thanks!

Stef

In cases of AE Weirdness, I close the application & start it up again...
or restart the machine...
or shut down the machine & turn it on again...

in that order. Typically, the problem goes away.

I've never trusted highly-compressed video & audio footage in AE. I'll transcode to a good, lossless production codec. It reduces erratic AE behavior. If you've been using H.264, mp4, mpeg, mp3, ac3 in AE, you might want to consider that, too.

But you solved it on a restart. It sounds like "case closed" to me.

the issue could be linked to other processes that are running at the same time. When more applications are opened, AE seems to have trouble rendering transparency changes for RAM previews. Interesting...

The problem is not quite solved yet, but my conclusion for now would be: give AE as much room to breath as possible.

And yes, working with compressed video is never a good idea.

Thanks for your help and insights, Dave!
