How to create this falling animation?

Hi all, I have a project to work on for school and it's an animation, I have an idea what I want to do with the animation.
But only problem that I have now is that I don't know how to animate it, with this I mean I don't know how to work it into After Effects. Like if I need to work with motion tracking, camera or null object, etc.
The idea that I have is the following:
Scene1: Three heads(vector style) appears in the middle of the screen, they're greeting.
Scene2: After they've greeted the heads starts to fall down.
Scene 3: It falls into a soup bowl, so soup bowl appears.
Now if I animate this in AE, I would have changed the position of the head so that it'll drop out of the screen but then the bowl should appear but I don't want this. I want it to be as one flow, like the heads falls but you can see that it's falling, so the background is moving with the head and then at the bottom you'll see a bowl appears in the screen. The the heads drops into the bowl.
So how can I animate this to be in one flow? Are there any falling tutorials for what I'm trying to make?
I hope you'd understand what I want to animate and what I mean.
Thanks in advance!
