I'm new to AE and I can't get a hold of it's trimming logic.

My clip is a bit too long so I trim it from the beginning and from the end with trim comp to work area.

I want to use time remapping. I enable it, but the keyframes are not going to the beginning and end on the trimmed clip, but to the beginning and end of the original clip.

How could I trim the clip so there wouldn't be anything left, but the short clip itself?

Trim your clip as you have been doing, then pre-compose it. You should be able to retime the precomposed clip as desired as its start / end will be as you selected on the original clip.

I've just published a script to enable time-remapping to trimmed layers' extents.

Presenting keen-TrimRemap:

The blog post includes instructions on how to use the normal Ae shortcut for time-remapping to run this script instead, essentially making this the default time-remapping behavior in Ae. Feedback is always welcome.
