Is .MOV better for After Effects than .MP4?

I bought a Nikon DSLR and it records in .MOV apparently. I was wondering will this be better for editing and Chroma Keying in Keylight than my cheaper .MP4 camcorder?

Thanks.

It depends on a lot more than the video container. Data rate, color sampling, etc are more important. Most DSLRs record H264, which - though usually very good quality - is highly compressed. Most editing software can now handle H264 files with ease, but for color grading or detailed chroma keying, you may want to look into an external recorder. Compressed footage tends to fall apart pretty quickly once you start manipulating it.

Here is a web page that should help you get a basic understanding of video codecs and containers.
