Adding a mask to a keylight effect

I have a really rough green screen shot and I am trying to only apply the keylight effect to a small area of the frame. Is there a way to apply a mask over the shot to only effect a portion of the frame? I wanted to know if there is a way to do this without a hold-out matte.

Very Easy! Duplicate the layer. Mask around the portion you want to key. Apply Keylight. If the masked-off area moves, you'll probably want to animate the mask by keyframing the mask path property.
If you do end up animating the mask, and the chroma key background isn't evenly lit, you'll have trouble pulling the key. You may have to precomp, and use Rotobrush to isolate the subject. Don't try to use Rotobrush intuitively -- tead the instructions and look at tutorials.
Now, if the green screen shot is a total disaster, you may want to consider a re-shoot.
