I am running Adobe CS5 including Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Aftereffects on my 2009 Mac Pro desktop. I am running Yosemite. I am trying to work with HD files I shot for a green screen project and whenever I apply a keying effect(Keylight or Color Key) the project crashes. Any ideas why?

Indeed I do know why: it's Yosemite, and you have a decision to make.
CS5 is not supported for Yosemite. It doesn't work with Yosemite. Furthermore, Adobe has no plans to support CS5 for Yosemite; the software is now four versions old.
Thus, you must decide to 1) revert to your previous OS (pre-Mavericks), 2) purchase CS6 which WILL run on Yosemite once updated, 3) subscribe to Adobe Creative Cloud, 4) install CS5 on a different Mac with an older OS and consider it your legacy system or 5) run Yosemite on a different Mac.
