Title crawl with glow effect to highlight certain text
on Dec 31, 2014 at 4:48:02 am

Hey there,

Trying to make a slightly complex (or not) text effect for a teaser I'm working on. Basically I need to have a few dozen names & dates appear in just a few seconds--the stylization is more important than legibility, although legibility for a few names would be ideal.

The solution I've come up with for now is to run a series of title crawls with multiple names/dates in each one, and try to apply a glow animation to ONLY the names (not dates) as they scroll by. I hope that makes sense.

Does anyone have an idea on how to do this in after effects? Link to a tutorial? Any other ideas that would accomplish what I'm going for here are welcome as well...Any help appreciated as always

Duplicate the text layer. You can mask text layers. Multiple masks. Play with mask modes to isolate the desired text. Blur it, add a glow to it... whatever you want.
