From Final Cut Pro X To After Effects

Greetings,

I'm a bit confused about file length into after effects. I have a 30 minute project in Final Cut Pro X. I want to add some effects to some parts of the video. My question is if I need to export the entire video after rendering to AF? Or only the areas where my animation would go?

I hate to think that I would have to wait again for AE to render my video again. If I only send parts of my video to AE, will I lose quality during rendering when brought back to FCPX?

Sorry for the newbie question and look forward to all advice.. Thank you..

Just export the shots you need and work on those in Ae.

You can use anything from ProRes 422 and up -- they're visually lossless and there will be no noticeable quality degradation, even through several generations of recompression.

Or you can export a XML file to import into after effects.
