I've seen several posts commenting on scrolling text however haven't found anything along the same path yet. The image attached explains what I am looking to accomplish. I need a string of text to scroll up, be faded out automatically on the top and bottom but whichever text is in the middle is large and automatically bolded.

I've tried pre-comping, masking / feathering, magnifying effect but not with very good results. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had hoped to simply wrap the text around a cylinder and rotate using a null but not sure the best method to go about that either.

Would the Bulge effect work for you?

The difficulty with bulge is it causes a wrap to occur at the edges and to eliminate it I have to increase the radius so large it causes the text to tear/distort too much :(

I'd use CC Cylinder.

Rotate the text 90 degrees, precomp it, apply CC Cylinder to the precomp, then rotate that layer back 90 degrees. Set CC Cylinder's Render property to Outside.

Use two layers with different precomped text or different scales, plus with masking/matting to get the magnified effect.

I did try Cylinder so thank you. I wasn't completely pleased with the results. I decided a slightly different approach with similar parameters. I used Element 3D and created a simple Cylinder and used the text as a custom texture. Duplicated, masked it out and feathered. Not getting the auto bold but as you suggested I could use a different set of text with different font to achieve it. Similar to the CC Cylinder but for some reason I'm happier with the results.
Hopefully client likes it.

Thanks guys!

JP

Would MiniMax get you part way to the auto bold?

I put together a crude example. The text doesn't line up as well as yours...
