Ok, I know the basic principle of a loop. Create a cycle and then cut off the comp one frame before, so that the next frame is the beginning frame to avoid a jump or a brief pause. I'm not 100% certain what I'm doing wrong here. It looks great when I preview it in After Effects, but then it hangs up when I preview my render in QuickTime, and still when I compress it down from there.

I've uploaded the file in the hopes that someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong here.

Thanks in advance,

Nick

i can't open your project since my ae is outdated... but it is likely that quicktime is the problem. quicktime doesn't loop cleanly, so you often see a hitch when it loops back to the beginning.

to check the render, bring it back into ae. select it in the project window and choose file>interpret footage>main. set the loops option to 2 (or higher) and then drag that onto the new comp icon and play thought the loop point to make sure it is smooth.

if it is, then you are fine. your render is good and it will loop cleanly in ae, or an nle or any device that is capable of playing a loop smoothly.

That's a great idea. Let me give it a shot and see what happens. Ultimately, the file is going to be either a gif, or an HTML5 video for display on a company's website.

If it's still hanging up and being weird, are you on CS6? I can convert it down to that if you are.

Thanks again.

Ok, the file works perfectly in After Effects so I once again tried outputting to HTML 5 video through a converter and it still hangs up for whatever reason. That said, I opened it up in Photoshop and output as a gif and the loop is seamless... Not sure what's going on, but I'm relieved to see I haven't forgotten how to do loops. Now all I need is a formal that won't hang up and get all weird.

Thanks again for your advice.

Nick
