I am creating a simple drawing and animating the sun's rays bouncing off a window to show how a certain type of glass in a window works. I animated the sun's rays with the write-on effect and it works good but only goes 1 time. I want to loop the write-on effect so that it will happen repeatedly.

I tried adding the expression loopOut("cycle,0) .....onto the brush position control in the write-on effect but it still only goes one time....

You could try precomposing the brush layer and adjust it's comp length needed to complete one cycle and then on the precomped layer in the main comp, add time-remap and then loopOut on that and drag the length to the end.
