question about importing projects to other projects
on Jul 16, 2014 at 10:07:07 pm

I've been creating artwork and cutting it up in photoshop, i then import those layers into ae and rotate the positions and parent the layers together to make a 3d(2.5d) object. right now for example ive been trying to make a cabin like this and the import those layer to a bigger scene(project.) but when I import the project it is just a flattened version of all the layers. how can i fix this? thank you.

This is not a question of importing a project into another, but rather about nested compositions.

If you build your cabin in a comp named CABIN and then place it another comp named SCENE, you want to check the Collapse Transformations [link] switch for on the CABIN layer inside the SCENE comp.

now, when I use collapse transformations on a freeform layer it disappears, unless it has the 3d layers on, but then its just flat.

The comp becomes invisible when you check Collapse Transformations because the camera is not pointed at it. Either move the camera or move the CABIN layer.

thanks. I have it visible now in the scene with the Collapse Transformations on, but i cant tell if it still has its freeform qualitys yet beacuse now it faces the camera no matter were i move it while everything else in the scene orbits.

Can you post a few screen shots showing your Ae UI and your comps?
