Hi all,

Does anyone know whether AE registers empty artboards from Illustrator as something it has to process? A lot of my projects involve importing AI files into AE, and AI always creates that extra artboard that is very large outside of my original artboard. I usually delete it as a matter of course, but I'm wondering whether I need to do this? Is it eating up any of my render time?

I'm pretty sure the other artboard doesn't affect render time, but I can think of aa couple of good reasons not to have it: conveience and simplicity. Without the additional artboard, Illustrator documents are guaranteed to come in at the intended size. You also eliminate the possibility of AE misreading the dimensions of the Illustrator document.

Those are good enough reasone for me, anyway.

Thanks Dave. Yes my normal workflow is to get rid of that 2nd artboard anyway, like you say, just for convenience and tidiness. Occasionally though I do forget, so I was just wondering whether it affected render time.
